The Benefits of Vitamin A for Your Skin

cosmetic jar

I am often asked what is my go to cosmetic active ingredient I personally could not live without. Well, If I had to choose, I would definitely say: Vitamin A. This is really the best ingredient to keep your skin young and fresh in the long term….. let’s see all the benefits of vitamin A

Vitamin A, and the products you can make or put it in to, are pretty big deals in the cosmetics and skincare industry.

They do a lot of good all-around and can do wonderful things for your skin. Here’s a look at why you need some Vitamin A for your skin.

Vitamin A has a number of anti-aging properties. One thing it does a good job is helping to remove wrinkles which are the number one indicator of aging.

Applying vitamin A rich products keeps your skin even and clean. Focus on areas around the eyes to further reduce signs of aging.

Skin Cell Growth

Another way that vitamin A benefits your skin is sparking skin cell growth. Vitamin A sends signals to and between your skin cells and can control their behaviour. It makes your body create new skin cells to replace older ones. This keeps your skin looking fresh and healthy.

When you have these skin cells ready to go your body heals better from cuts and scrapes. You need vitamin A to recover properly from an injury and prevent scarring and other problems like that.

Sun Protection

Vitamin A boosts how well your skin is protected by the harmful rays of the sun. Constant exposure to the sun can make your skin become inflamed, which is why it hurts when you have a sunburn. It also damages your collagen levels. Collagen is what makes your skin stay soft and smooth.

More and more exposure to the sun causes more and more collagen damage, which makes you look older and can do major damage to your skin.

As vitamin A sends messages between your skin cells it also intercepts other messages. It stops the process of collagen being destroyed by the sun, keeping your skin in good condition.

Though it’s important that you also keep up with your sun protection products like sunscreen. Vitamin A can’t do everything. Consider it supplemental sun protection.

Relieving Skin Conditions

Because vitamin A does so much for your skin, it is good for taking care of skin conditions like acne and eczema. If you have acne then take in more vitamin A through your diet and with supplements and it should help clear it up. It also stops it forming in the first place. Vitamin A can help with other issues like Eczema and cold sores by promoting healthy skin growth.

There are many foods that are rich in vitamin A and most of them are good for you anyway and worth taking in. Foods like eggs, kale, sweet potatoes, dairy products and pumpkin are all rich in vitamin A. If you’re not getting enough then you can consider taking supplements.

Though with every supplement it’s always worth asking your doctor beforehand to make sure you aren’t taking too much. You can also just use skincare products that are rich in vitamin A but you can’t go wrong with a better diet. So get more vitamin A and see what happens to your skin.

Why is it so Hard for Men to Say “I Love You”?

man in suite for wedding

There are several things that men are great at, and then there are several things that we’re really bad at.

Expressing our feelings with words and saying “I love you” is one of them. I’ve had women ask me why we find it so difficult, and I’ve had men ask me why their women insist on them saying it. So I thought I’d take the time to sit down and explain just why it’s so hard for men to say “I love you”.

We Aren’t Feeling It

Sometimes the most obvious answer is the right one. There’s really a chance that your guy isn’t at the stage yet where he feels that he really does love you. We take love more seriously than you would expect. Consider how long you’ve been together and remember that a crush takes four months to turn into full blown love (it’s true!) when wondering why your guy hasn’t confessed his love just yet. If you’ve been waiting longer than half a year, it may be time to consider cutting him loose.

It’s Awkward

Men are raised from a young age to be awkward about their emotions; especially love. Most men have problems telling their own mothers that they love them. If he won’t say it to his mother, then what chance do you have? Sometimes it’s just way too awkward for us to say that we love someone, especially the first time we say it.

We Express Love With Actions, Not Words

To follow on from the previous point, men are much better at expressing themselves with actions rather than their words. If your guy does a lot for you; if he buys you presents, helps around the house, and is a tender lover; then it means that he loves you. He expresses his love through his actions. Never forget that actions speak louder than words, as this is one of the founding principles of Manhood.

We’re Not Ready for The Commitment

Many men (and even women) have grown up around parents that have continuously declared their love for each other, but ultimately ended up divorcing. If half of all marriages end in divorce, that’s a lot of men who have been taught one thing about love and shown another. We don’t want to declare our love to someone unless we really mean it and we can dedicate ourselves to giving you the great life we wish our parents had given each other.

We’re Scared

Despite our rough and tough exteriors, men can be very emotional beings. We’re just bad at expressing them, as explained above. Sometimes your man is just really scared to say that he loves you in case you don’t feel the same way about him. He could have issues dating back to his childhood of being rejected. If he was rejected a lot when he was younger, he’s not likely to make the first move this time around.

There are lots of reasons that men have trouble saying that they love you. They could be scared; they could find it awkward; they could just be bad at saying it; what matters most is that they prove it. Just because your man isn’t saying he loves you five times a day doesn’t mean he’s suddenly stopped loving you. Let your man know how much you love him, and he’ll let you know how much he loves you; one way or another. Comuunication is after a key component of a healthy marriage.

Some ways to help with acne scars

acne scars

When most women come to us for their wedding makeup, we often have to fade and minimize acne scars. This is not always easy as the pits or holes can be quite obvious but with some proper makeup and good skills, this is not impossible to do a good job. However, let’s be clear, miracles are not possible. That is why we always recommend people to come to consult us in advance so we can assess the situation and maybe recommend a few professionals that could help with your skin and help you the be the best version of yourself on your D day.

For acne scars, sometimes some fillers can really do the trick. Some of you asked us a few questions about the procedure.

This is easy and not too expensive. It is one of the most popular cosmetic surgery. Here’s a little more on the treatment, including what you can expect before and after.

What to Expect Before Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers for acne scars are very simple and effective treatments.

Before the procedure begins your doctor will have a conversation with you about which acne scars are causing you the most grief. There could be some scars that you consider particularly problematic that you want taken care of first. After this brief discussion the procedure will begin.

The Procedure

After identifying the acne scars you want filled, the doctor will treat your skin to numb it and reduce the chance of bruising. Understand that there are some options if you’re worried about the pain of the procedure. Typically the doctor will apply ice and alcohol unless you ask for anything stronger.

The doctor begins the procedure with the areas you mentioned. The needle used in the treatment is very fine and, after injecting the dermal filler, the doctor will apply gauze to the area. After filling in all the scars that look like they would be good for the treatment the patient looks at themselves in the mirror and has the option of pointing out any existing problem areas. These areas will also be injected and the process continues until you’ve filled in everything that needs to be filled in.

After the Procedure

After the procedure, the doctor will give you an ice pack to hold against the treated areas. They could be a little red and bruised for up to a week. It’s important that you avoid any facial treatments, including facial massages, for the first two weeks after the procedure.

You also need to avoid exercising too much and drinking alcohol for the first 24 hours after the procedure. If you do notice bruising then you can use arnica gel and other arnica supplements to reduce bruising. Bromelain supplements and pineapple juice are two more ways to decrease bruising. You could also use makeup to hide the bruising if you wanted. You should also check the latest post here about what scar creams to use by our great friends from

Now you know a little more about dermal fillers for acne you’re in a better position to decide if the treatment is right for you or not. It can be effective but there could be a different approach that could work better for you. There are many other ways to get rid of acne scars you can explore.

It depends on the kind of scarring you have and how much of it there is.. Your dermatologist will be able to advise you further and recommend a course of treatment to take care of your acne scars.

How to find a Good Hairdresser

hairstyle for weddingFor your wedding day, you want to look the best. we often talk about the skin and makeup on but let’s not forget the hair.

Yeah, every woman knows the importance of finding a good hairdresser. Even some men worry about their hair, just not as much. (you want your husband to be smoking hot too, on your wedding day). So, you need a hairdresser that can leave you looking and feeling good ( stress free and relaxed )and you want to avoid the hair disasters.

Here are some tips on how to find a good hairdresser.

Ask Around

If one of your friends has a great haircut then ask them who did it for them. If you’re feeling particularly lucky you can even ask a random stranger who did their hair. Also do the opposite. If you have a friend who had a bad experience with a hairdresser then find out who did it so you can avoid that hairdresser.

Don’t Do Cheap

Budget salons are very alluring but a lot of them give you what you pay for; a really cheap haircut. There are some good budget salons but for the most part you should avoid a cheap hairdresser unless you hear one is particularly good. You don’t need to go super expensive either. Find one in the mid-range that works for you.

Look Around

One good thing about finding the right hairdresser is that you can look around as much as you want. If you try a hairdresser and they aren’t for you then just shop around more. Try out different salons until you find the one that’s right for you.

Have a Consultation

If you find a hairdresser or two that you like the sound of then you can book a consultation. Most good salons will give you the opportunity to have a consultation where they will explain what they do and what they charge for their services. It also gives you a chance to begin forming a relationship with them and see for themselves what the salon is like before you give them any money. If possible, bring a picture of your wedding dress so they recommend you a hairstyle that will fit your dress.

Build a Relationship

You’re going to talk to your hairdresser a lot. Because of that it’s a good idea to build up a relationship with your hairdresser. Be comfortable with and around them. Good hairdressers are also going to give you good recommendations. The best will be able to copy a hairstyle from a picture too. Which is great if you don’t know how to word what you want.

Give Them a Second “Date”

Most people are a little nervous on the first date. If you don’t hit it off immediately with your hairdresser, but you do like the cut, then give them a second try. The more you visit them the more comfortable you and the hairdresser will be. The more you deal with them the more confident they become that they can serve you well too. Find a good hairdresser and give them a real chance.

Finding the right hairdresser can save you a lot of time and money getting your hair fixed by someone else. Be sure to book a consultation to see for yourself what the hairdresser can do before giving them any money. Enjoy your haircut and have fun with the right hairdresser.

The courtship process and the wedding itself is a whirlwind affair filled with excitement and love. Then you settle in to the relationship and things can get a little boring. Here are some tips to avoid boredom in marriage.

  1. Engage in Life and Growth

One key to avoiding marriage boredom is to not withdraw from life. You need to still live your life and grow personally.

You can continue to learn from your spouse during your marriage and it makes for fun and interesting conversation.

  1. Support Each Other

You need to keep each other going and encourage your partner to embrace and try new things. Too many couples feel threatened when their spouse decides they want to give something new a try.

Instead you need to encourage your partner to embrace these new ideas because they feel happy and supported when you do so. You and your spouse are two different people so you need to embrace those differences and support when you can’t join in.

  1. Adapt and Learn

You need to continue to adapt and learn about the world around you and give new things a go. You shouldn’t get stuck in your ways or it becomes too difficult to keep your mind open and embrace new ways to think and act. You can’t grow and change unless you welcome these new ideas. Being married is no excuse to stop living. So start living and stop being bored!

Some Myths about Acne

surprised face

Acne is a pretty bad thing for anyone to go through. What’s worse is being uninformed about it.

To say that acne is only a problem for teenagers is false. This is a myth because we have something called adult acne which can grow on our face and on our body. Acne is something that’s recurring and nobody ever grows out of it.

I see a lot a women coming before their marriage with adult acne… which  makes make up even more complicated. so here are a few things to know.

In fact, you might have read somewhere that doing something can cause or prevent acne. The fact is not all of these are true. With that in mind here’s a look at some of the myths and truths of acne.

Myth: Acne Is Caused By Food

There are a lot of reasons you should eat healthy food but if you’re eating healthy to get rid of, or prevent, acne then you’re out of luck. Acne isn’t caused only by eating candy and French fries. It actually takes about three weeks for a pimple to fully form so that chocolate you had the day before the pimple showed up? there are other factor to take into account.

Myth:Washing Your Face Is Good As It Removes Dirt

There are several causes behind acne. Junk food isn’t one of them, and neither is dirt. So if you wash your face to get rid of the dirt you should stop when it’s clean. Try to avoid washing your face more than two times a day. Overdoing the cleaning of your face can actually cause more damage to it which is something you undoubtedly want to avoid.

MYTH:Scrubbing Your Face Avoids Blemishes

Just as you should avoid washing your face too much, you should avoid scrubbing it too much. Especially if you use an alcohol based cleanser. They will tear away at your skin, removing all the essential oil that keep it moisturized and actually keep blemishes away. It’s recommended instead that you scrub gently and use cleansers and toners that don’t have alcohol in them.

However, scrubing is important to avoid your pores to be clogged which is the starting point of acne, pimples, whiteheads and blackheads called comedo. By the way, our friends, sophie and her team have just published another great guide to get rid of whiteheads, check it, it is really worth it.  Sebum, dead skin cells, bacteria can build up and lead to those whiteheads  or bumps in the T-zone ( Forehead, nose, chin…) make sure to scrub at least once a week to let your pores get rid of any oil excess….

Myth: You Can Be Too Old To Get Acne

The stereotypical acne sufferer is a teenager. It’s the spotty kid or the girl who is about to go to prom or on a date when her face explodes. The fact is that while it is true that 90% of teenagers get acne, they aren’t the only ones. 50% of women and 25% of men in their 20s and even 30s will suffer from acne. You should never think that you’re clear just because you’re not a teenager anymore.

Myth: Acne Isn’t Serious

We all laugh at that stereotypical teen who just wants their face to be spot free and think it’s not a big deal, but it is. It’s a big deal socially of course. Acne sufferers are often laughed at and mocked, which is pretty damaging. But it does also lead to physical problems. Acne scars are a real thing and your face can be left permanently scarred by bad acne. So don’t listen when people tell you to just get over acne. There’s a chance you might never fully recover. If you get too worried visit a dermatologist.

Myth: Acne Can Be Cured

The last dose of the truth is perhaps the hardest to swallow. The fact is that acne can be controlled by medicine, but it can not be cured. All you can do is lessen the damage and mitigate it. An actual cure is still a long way away.

Remember that the healthier your skin is, the better your wedding makeup wil be. so please treat and take care of your skin way before coming to get your wedding makeup done.

How To Entertain Your Wedding Guests

Your wedding is one of the most important days of your life.

It’s something beautiful that you share with your friends and family. While the excitement of getting married might be enough to entertain you, it won’t be enough to entertain your guests. They aren’t getting married after all!

If you want to ensure your wedding is memorable for all the right reasons then here are some great tips for how to entertain your wedding guests.

  1. Keep Them Fed

You need to make sure that your guests have something to nibble on before the ceremony as well as after it.

It takes a long time between a wedding getting started and the reception afterwards. It’s more than enough time for people to get hungry, which just makes them crankier.

Find small appetisers that your guests can enjoy while they wait so that they are happy and refreshed by the time the ceremony starts.

  1. Stick to the Plan

Okay so you can’t stick to a wedding plan with military precision, but you should also avoid keeping your guests waiting around while you take pictures.

If you know there’s going to be a lot bit of dullness for your guests, such as when taking pictures; then you should consider setting up a space with some snacks and drinks for guests to sit and wait. They can get the party started before it really gets started.

  1. Change The Venue

If you’ve got the budget for it you’d be surprised at where you can hold the reception. Why not go all out by doing something unconventional such as holding your wedding reception at a science museum or even a zoo?

Of course even if you have to stick with a more traditional venue you can still spice it up a little with some décor or entertainment. Have a chat with the site manager to find out more about what you can do with the space to make it more entertaining.

  1. Time the Toasts

Every wedding needs a good toast or two. Or five.

The problem is that these toasts quickly add up and they can end up going quite long too. You should consider limiting the amount of toasts you have and how long each toaster has to give their speech.

That way it doesn’t get too long and painful for your guests and they can quickly get back to the festivities and having fun.

  1. Relax

There’s no underestimating how stressful it can be to plan a wedding, but you should avoid stressing out about any tiny details and just have fun. Your wedding will likely not be 100% according to plan and something will almost definitely go wrong.

Just relax and don’t stress out about it and your guests will have a whole lot of fun too. Keep a friend at hand who can slip you some drinks when you start getting stressed out if you need to.

keep in mind you can also simply let your wedding planner handle all the tiny details 🙂

Remember that it’s your wedding. It needs to be the happiest and most fun day of your life. So don’t stress out and enjoy yourself and your guests will enjoy themselves too.

How to Maintain a Happy Marriage With Children

Marriages can be a whole lot of fun but then the kids come along.

Sometimes a marriage can quickly become all about the kids and it takes some of the happiness and fun out of it. You find it more difficult to spend time together and you barely ever get any alone time any more.

Here’s how to maintain a happy and healthy marriage with children.

Put Each Other Before the Kids

When you’re putting together a healthy marriage you need to focus on your partner more than you focus on your kids.

You’re a husband before a father, or a wife before a mother. The marriage forms the backbone of the relationship and you need everyone to be able to see and feel it. Let your kids see how much you love each other and show your partner that they are still special to you.

It also makes your kids feel more secure.

Don’t Interfere With your Partner’s Parenting

You and your partner will have a different role in your child’s life.

  • Mothers are typically the nurturers. They make children eat their vegetables and kiss their scrapes away.
  • Dads tend to be the fun and cool ones. Dad lets kids eat what they want when they want and just mess around.

While you might feel that your approach is better you should let your partner do things their way for a balanced upbringing.

Be United

To follow on from not interfering you also need to present a united front. You should support your partner and their decisions.

If your kids try and say that your partner let them do something you should resist the urge to say that you say they can’t, which is probably going to be difficult. Being a consistent united front shows your strength to your kids and lets them know that they can’t get away with something and say they were told it was okay by your partner.

Staying active helps keep you and your relationship healthy. It also shows off some positive behavior to your kids. You can make it a family affair by going on walks or bike rides together as a family.

That further reinforces the positive behavior with your kids and gets them excited about exercise. No matter what it is you do make sure you do something and enjoy the endorphins that come with it.

Have Sex

When you think about it it’s almost ironic that a child would disrupt the very process that brought them into the world. Having a kid can really destroy a sex life but there’s no reason to let it. You need to make sex a priority again and find time for one another.

Sex and physical intimacy are what is holding your marriage together (plus it’s fun!) so make it a part of your marriage; even if you have to lock the bedroom door.

Kids can quickly become a major part of any marriage, but you still need to find time for each other and spend time together as a couple. Your partner, and indeed your marriage, will thank you for it.

Medical treatments to get rid of acne scars before the wedding day.

acne scarsWhen we meet someone for her wedding makeup, we usually like to do it months before as we often can help her shine for he wedding day. Make up is perfect to hide some scars but let’s be clear, we always recommend our clients to take action and improve their skin.

We know acne scars can be pretty depressing but the good news is that if you suffer acne scars there are treatments out there. There are a few different medical treatments for acne scars that you can explore a few months before your wedding day to give time for your skin to heal and shine.

Skin Peels

If you’ve tried conventional acne medicine and it’s not good a good job you should consider a chemical peel for acne scars. A chemical peel, much like the name implies, involves having a chemical solution applied to your skin. This makes your skin blister. As the skin blisters it is replaced by new skin. This exfoliation effect can remove acne blemishes and scars. It can also improve the overall appearance of your skin so there are other positive effects to skin peels.

A microdermabrasion treatment is similar to a skin peel in that the skin cells are removed. With this treatment tiny crystals are used to actually remove the skin cells and unclog your pores but a wand with diamond crystals is mostly used instead.

Microdermabrasion works great against superficial acne  scars. It doesn’t use any chemicals or lasers so some people may prefer this method for this reason. As microdermabrasion can be used for more than just acne it can be done on your face, chest, back or shoulders.

Check our packages : we propose some microdermabrasion sesssions here. But we do recommend you to consult your dermatologist first.

Laser Resurfacing Treatment

Laser treatments can be effective at treating acne scars because they are laser-focused. A dermatologist armed with a laser will only target the acne scar cells and leave the healthy skin cells nearby alone.

There are a few different kinds of laser resurfacing treatment options available. The two most common ones are CO2RE, which targets superficial and deeper skin layers and Fraxel, which goes much deeper into your skin. Your dermatologist will be able to suggest which is the right choice for your acne scars.

Microneedling is also good  for really deep acne scars. It also works to treat wrinkles and sun damage. With microneedling tiny needles are injected into the skin to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin. It essentially stimulates the body’s natural healing process. The needles can be sent as deep as needed to treat wrinkles and acne scars. It’s one of the best treatments for bad cases of acne scars and it does a lot less tissue damage than you’d think given the name of the treatment and the description of “tiny needles are jabbed into the skin”.

Which treatment will work best for your acne scars depends on your situation.

It’s important to discuss your options with your physician and dermatologist and get their recommendations. It can also depend on your personal preferences. if you want to read more about how to remove acne scars, take a look at sophie’s blog post which disscuses in detail all the available acne treatments.

But keep in mind if you consider some acne scar treatments, plan it a few months before your wedding makeup so the swelling or redness are gone for your wedding day.

What to do After an Argument With Your Loved One

argument-coupleNo one wants to go through an argument with the person they love.

It’s a sad fact of life that you will inevitably argue though. No relationship is perfect and if you think yours is then something is wrong. There are a few things to do to keep a healthy relationship.

But I guess the main issues stem from the fights and arguments with your beloved one.

There are things you can do after an argument to make things better though.

Here is a list of what to do after an argument with your loved one.

Give Them Space and Time

Immediately after an argument is when both of your tempers will still be flared and at their peak.

You’re both more likely to do or say something terrible if you don’t give someone the space and time they need to come down. If you try and make up too soon and they aren’t feeling receptive then you’ll just end up in an another argument.

Understand Why the Argument Happened

There’s a saying that you never fight for the reason you think you do. There are deeper reasons behind every argument.

Some big problems end up coming out through tiny little things.

Here are some of the real reasons that people argue. When you understand the reason why, you can move past it.

  • Inadequacy is a big reason your partner will start an argument.
  • They feel they aren’t good enough.
  • A fear of abandonment is another.
  • They are worried that you will leave them.
  • They may also feel unappreciated.

Remember that you may feel these things too.

Convey How You Really Feel In One Go

When you know the real reason you started an argument it’s important you convey that in a simple and concise manner. Just tell your partner exactly how you feel in one sentence.

Tell them what you feel and why. Such a sentence might be “I feel angry that I don’t have enough money to support you” or “I get scared if you talk to other people”.

Apologise, Even if You Aren’t to Blame

Even if you didn’t start the argument you can be the one to nip it in the bud and apologise for what happened. It can stop your partner and make them apologise too.

Explain that you didn’t want to argue with them and you want to try talking to them again when you’ve both calmed down. Remember to be sincere in your apology or your partner will pick up on it and you’ll quickly be in another argument.

Create Ground Rules

If your argument was a particularly bad one or it was about something that can be changed you may want to set new ground rules in your relationship.

You can agree to not shout at eachother again or agree that you or your partner won’t do the thing that caused the argument again.

Remember that love was never supposed to be easy. It was just supposed to be worth it. It is worth it too. Love can get past any argument or disagreement and if you and your partner love eachother you can move past this argument and, with careful manoeuvring, avoid such an argument in the future.
